Connecting to ResNet Secured Wireless

When you connect to the ResNet Secured Wireless network for the first time, you will have to follow the instructions below to ensure a secured network connection.  Once you have completed these instructions, the connection should show as available networks and you can connect normally.  When you reset your network password, you will need to follow the instructions found on Connecting to ResNet Secure Wireless After a Network Password Reset.

Students will need an 802.11.b/g/n, or 802.11.a/n Wireless Network Card (NIC) in order to use ResNet Wireless. These items may be purchased at any store selling computer items, or at the SMCM Campus Store. Depending on the brand and model device you have, wireless connectivity may be built in.

  1. Right click the internet connection icon at the bottom right hand corner of our screen. Select Open Network and Sharing Center

  2. Click Set up a new connection or network.

  3. Click Manually connect to a wireless network.

  4. Enter ResNet as the Network name. Select WPA2-Enterprise as the Security type. Select AES as the Encryption type. Click Next.

  5. Click Change connection settings

  6. Click on the Security tab. Select Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) in the Choose a network authentication method drop down. Click Settings.

  7. Check the box DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA. Select Secured passwords (EAP-MSCHAP v2) in the Select Authentication Method drop down box. Click Configure.

  8. Uncheck the box Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any). Click OK.

  9. Click Advance Settings.

  10. Check the box Specify authentication mode. Select User Authentication. Click Save Credentials.

  11. Type your SMCM Username and Password into the appropriate fields then click OK.

  12. After you successfully connect to ResNet you will need to Register Your Computer For Use With ResNet
  1. Control click the WiFi icon at the top right hand of your screen and select Join Other Network.

  2. Enter resnet as the SSID; Select WPA2 Enterprise for the Security type; Select Automatic for the Mode/802.1x type (if option is available); Enter your SMCM Username and Password in the appropriate fields then click Join.

  3. After you successfully connect to ResNet you will need to Register Your Computer For Use With ResNet
