Completing the DiversityEDU Training Module- Students

To access and complete the required DiversityEDU training module, please complete the following steps.

Technical Requirements & Contact Information

Student Diversity Training

  • The first step requires that you login to your SMCM Blackboard account in your internet browser (The step-by-step tutorial was completed using Google Chrome).
    • Blackboard can be accessed by visiting blackboard.smcm.edu in your internet browser.
      • If this is your first time logging into Blackboard, your username is the first part of your email address (the part that comes before '@smcm.edu')
      • Your password is the same as your SMCM email password
    • Click Login to continue.

  • After logging into Blackboard, locate the Student Diversity Training in the My Courses block, under the heading Courses where you are: Student.
    • Click on the words Student Diversity Training to continue.

  • When you enter the Faculty and Staff Diversity Training course, you will first see the Announcements page.
    • Read the introduction from the IDE Education & Training work group at the top of the page.
    • Scroll down to read the Technical Requirements needed in order to successfully complete the training module.

  • To access the DiversityEDU training module, click on Course Content in the upper menu on the left side of your screen

  • To access the training module, click on Faculty Test Section. It will open in a new browser window popup.

    • If your site allows popups, the training module will open in a new window automatically.
    • If you have popups blocked in your browser, you will get a notice that the popup was blocked.
      • Change the popup settings by clicking the icon with the red x in the URL bar. Select the option 'Always allow popups from https://blackboard.smcm.edu' 
      • Click Done to continue. The page will reload automatically

  • If you had to allow popups, open the DiversityEDU training module by clicking Launch Course.

  • The DiversityEDU training module opens in a new browser window. Follow the instructions in the module to complete the training.

  

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS - FACULTY & STAFF COURSE

  • Please use a laptop or desktop computer and one of these popular web browsers: Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Explorer / Edge.
  • Make sure that you do NOT have the popup blocker turned on for blackboard.smcm.edu
  • Make sure you have Adobe Flash installed. For enabling Flash in Safari, please see these instructions.
  • The course contains many videos, so it might take a few minutes to load. You will see a blue loading symbol as it loads.
  • If the course doesn't load:
    • Try accessing it in a different web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer/Edge)
    • If the course doesn't load, it's most likely a Flash issue. Even if you have it installed, you still have to enable it in your browserPlease check here if you have it and follow the steps to enable it.
    • Make sure to go into your web browser's settings to allow cookies from "all websites" and "allow 3rd party cookies", depending on the browser. 
  • If AFTER completing the troubleshooting solutions above, you are still having issues completing the DiversityEDU training, please submit an OIT Helpdesk Ticket

Tips for a successful experience:

  1. Please close other programs you have running
  2. Close other tabs in your browser
  3. Use navigation within the course (do not use your browser’s back button)

If you have problems:

  1. Be sure you are on one of our supported browsers
  2. Try clearing your cache, cookies and history
  3. Try a different internet connection

If you are still having problems ACCESSING the course in Blackboard, please submit an OIT Support Ticket and have the following information ready:

  1. Operating System
  2. Browser and version
  3. Description of the problem and/or A screenshot or video of the problem
