Blackboard Test Students

The Blackboard Test Student tool creates an account for the instructor of a course that can be used to view the course as if they were a student. The Test Student Account allows an instructor to:

  • Check exactly what materials posted in Blackboard are available to students, and how they appear to the student (rather than how they appear to the instructor in Edit Mode).
  • Practice taking the quizzes or surveys to check for setup problems.
  • Submit assignments and receive feedback to understand the process for students.
  • Check the Grade Center to verify that the appropriate grades are visible to students.
  • Assist a student with troubleshooting their problems with Blackboard by having the same access to materials, menu options, and viewing grades as the student.

Once set up, instructors can log into their student account at any time using the username and password they created when they initially enrolled their test student account.

It is also important to remember that Blackboard will consider the test student account to be a "real" student enrolled in the course with the name of test_student. The account will appear in the Grade Center, so grade column statistics (such as the class average) may be thrown off by the presence of an additional student in the calculation of the grades.

If you have already created a test student account, you will not have to go through this process again. Please continue to the tab on enrolling your test student in another course if this is the case.
