Exporting and Archiving Blackboard 9 Courses

Exporting or Archiving your course is a method of saving previous class data in order to re-upload it into a future course or Blackboard environment.

Exporting a course preserves the materials posted to the course, but not the user interactions within the course. To export your course, sign in to Blackboard, access your course, and follow the instructions below:
  1. In the Control Panel in the lower right hand corner, click Packages and Utilities.
  2. Click Export/Archive Course.
  3. Click Export Package
  4. In section 3, Select Course Materials select the content areas and course materials you would like to export.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Once your request has been processed, you should see a confirmation. Wait for an email indicating the selected course's export has been executed and is ready to download.
  7. Click OK to continue.
  8. When you have received the confirmation email, your ExportFile will be available on the Export/Archive Course page.
  9. Right click the link and select Save As... in the drop-down menu to download this file to your computer.

Please note: Do not unzip this file -- you will not be able to view individual files from your course. The ExportFile is created in a format that only Blackboard can interpret. If you want to back up these individual files on your device, you will have to save each file separately.

Archiving a course saves all materials associated with a course, including the Grade Center, Announcements, Surveys, user interactions (such as Discussion Boards). To archive your course, open your course in Blackboard, and follow the instructions below:
  1. In the Control Panel in the lower right hand corner, click Packages and Utilities.
  2. Click Export/Archive Course.
  3. Click Archive Course
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Once your request has been processed, you should see a confirmation. Wait for an email indicating the selected course's export has been executed and is ready to download.
  6. Click OK to continue.
  7. When you have received the confirmation email, your ArchiveFile will be available on the Export/Archive Course page.
  8. Right click the link and select Save As... in the drop-down menu to download this file to your computer.

Please note: Do not unzip this file -- you will not be able to view individual files from your course. The ArchiveFile is created in a format that only Blackboard can interpret. If you want to back up these individual files on your device, you will have to save each file separately.
