Connecting to MobileNet

St. Mary's College provides wireless access to the the campus community through MobileNet.  The network services that are offered as part of MobileNet include,  but are not limited to, access to the Internet, Blackboard, Portal, and SMCM email.

Students will need an 802.11.b/g/n, or 802.11.a/n Wireless Network Card (NIC) in order to use MobileNet.  These items may be purchased at any store selling computer items, or at the SMCM Campus Store.  Depending on the brand and model device you have, wireless connectivity may be built in.  This article explains how to connect to MobileNet.

  1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Open Network Connections.
  3. Right click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Wireless Connections tab.
  5. Click Add under Preferred networks.
  6. In the Network Name (SSID) box, type mobilenet.
  7. Make sure the drop down menu next to Network Authentication is set to Open, and the menu next to Data Encryption is Disabled.
  8. Click OK.
  1. Click Start, and select Connect To from the menu on the right to display the Connect to a network dialog box.
  2. Select Setup a connection or network.
  3. On the Choose a connection option page, select Manually connect to a wireless network, then click Next.
  4. In the Network Name box, type mobilenet.
  5. Make sure the dropdown menu next to Network Authentication is set to Open and the menu next to Encryption displays Disabled.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the next screen click on Connect to.
  8. Click Cancel to close.
  1. Right click the connection icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
  2. Click Open Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Select Set up a new connection or network.
  4. On the Choose a connection option page, select Manually connect to a wireless network, then click Next.
  5. In the Network Name box, type mobilenet.
  6. Make sure the dropdown menu next to Security type is set to No authentication (Open) and the menu next to Encryption is grayed out.
  7. Click Next.
  8. On the next screen click on Connect to.
  9. Click Cancel to close.
  1. From the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen, select Location, then Networking.
  2. Set Show to AirPort.
  3. Set Configure to Use DHCP Server.
  4. Select Show Airport Status in Menu Bar.
  5. Select the AirPort icon in the top right of the menu bar and select Other... if you don't see mobilenet listed. If you see mobilenet in that menu, select it, and you will connect to it.
  6. If you selected Other..., enter mobilenet into the SSID (Network Name) field.
  7. If the option presents itself, select None for Wireless Encryption.
  8. Click Ok.
  9. Select Add this to approved Networks if prompted.
